An OTC Bitcoin trading desk collapsed in October 2020 with approximately 80 BTC in outstanding client deposits. The desk had never issued formal account statements. Clients maintained informal records from WhatsApp messages. When the operator vanished, clients had no legally admissible documentation to establish their claims in court.
