Bittrex was denied a BitLicense by the New York Department of Financial Services in March 2019 for inadequate AML controls. Bittrex immediately suspended all New York customer account registration. Existing New York customers had their accounts restricted to withdrawal-only mode. The withdrawal-only mode lasted until Bittrex either obtained a BitLicense or the customer relocated outside New York.
