On 29 May 2015 Ross Ulbricht was sentenced to life in prison for operating Silk Road. The sentencing finalised the government's forfeiture of all Bitcoin seized from the Silk Road operation, including over 144,000 BTC held in government-controlled wallets. Creditors of Silk Road vendors who had outstanding claims filed after the 2013 seizure found those claims permanently extinguished.
