A user discovered in May 2016 that the passphrase they had set for their Bitcoin wallet contained a special character that behaved differently across keyboard locales. They had set the passphrase on a US keyboard but were now using a UK keyboard where one key produced a different character. The single-character difference made all recovery attempts fail.
