Owner death — software wallet (2020)
ConstrainedCase description
A Bitcoin holder died in July 2020 leaving a will that stated 'my Bitcoin is in the blue Ledger device.' The estate found two Ledger devices — one blue-coloured case, one with blue stickers applied. Both were PIN-locked. The seed for the first was in the estate's documents. The second device's seed was never found.

What this illustrates
There was only one way in. When that path was gone, so was access. Whether full access was ultimately possible is unclear, but significant delay or outside intervention was involved.
Outcome interpretation
Access remained possible, but only with delay, dependence, or significant difficulty.
