Owner death — software wallet 2019
BlockedCase description
An estate attorney documented an April 2019 case where the deceased had purchased Bitcoin during the 2017 bull run specifically for their grandchildren's inheritance. They had set up a hardware wallet but documented the seed phrase as a series of numbered codes in a personal cipher known only to them. The cipher was not documented anywhere. The seed was unrecoverable.
