SurvivesCase description
A Bitcoin investor died in May 2020. The estate found a note that read 'Bitcoin on Bitfinex — login in safe.' The safe contained a username but no password. Bitfinex required a court order, death certificate, and proof that the estate was authorised under the applicable law to manage digital assets. Assembling the documentation during COVID restrictions took eight months.
