Forced relocation — hardware wallet (2023)
IndeterminateCase description
Nigerian citizens who had adopted Bitcoin as protection against naira devaluation encountered a new constraint in 2023 when the Nigerian government banned the use of peer-to-peer platforms for naira-crypto trades and later restricted access to Binance and other exchanges. Nigerian Bitcoin holders with self-custody faced no technical access issue, but converting Bitcoin to naira through legal channels became impossible. The effective blockage of the fiat-on/off ramp made Bitcoin holdings practically illiquid within Nigeria despite being technically accessible.
