ConstrainedCase description
A Bitcoin investor's house was destroyed by a wildfire in October 2020. Multiple devices containing backups were destroyed. The user's seed phrase had been stored in a fireproof document bag that survived but the bag had been placed in a cabinet that melted. The seed words were partially readable and professional recovery succeeded for part of the holdings.

Structural dependencies observed
What this illustrates
The wallet existed only on that device. When the device became inaccessible, there was no other way back in. Whether full access was ultimately possible is unclear, but significant delay or outside intervention was involved.
Outcome interpretation
Access remained possible, but only with delay, dependence, or significant difficulty.
