An October 2019 forum case describes a user who had their MacBook stolen at an airport. The machine contained an encrypted wallet. The thief attempted to crack the encryption, triggering a brute-force lockout that permanently wiped the drive after 10 failed attempts per the device's security settings. The user had no backup.
