A user's laptop containing a Bitcoin Core wallet file was stolen. No backup of the wallet.dat file had been made. Without the private keys, the user had no means of accessing the funds. The incident was reported on the Bitcoin forum as an early example of the risk of storing wallet files only on a single device.
