Destroyed in flood — Coldcard (2024)
BlockedCase description
A 2024 flood in Central Europe destroyed the home of a Bitcoin holder, including their Coldcard hardware wallet and the paper seed phrase backup that had been stored in a fireproof document bag in the same room as the device. The holder had not created an off-site backup of the seed phrase. The flood physically destroyed both the device and the primary backup simultaneously. The Bitcoin on the wallet was confirmed via blockchain explorer to show a large balance. A recovery specialist confirmed no path existed without the seed phrase or an alternative backup, and the funds were permanently inaccessible.
