Case description
In late 2025, Russian cryptocurrency figure Roman Novak and his wife were murdered in Dubai after being lured to a villa in the Hatta region by men posing as potential investors. The attackers sought access to what they believed was a large cryptocurrency fortune worth hundreds of millions. After torturing the couple in an attempt to obtain wallet credentials, the attackers killed both victims when the wallets they accessed did not contain the expected funds. Their bodies were reportedly encased in concrete. Two suspects were arrested. The case was cited by CertiK's 2025 Wrench Attack Report as one of the year's most severe incidents, illustrating the fatal consequences when coercion targets do not hold the expected holdings.
