ConstrainedCase description
In February 2024, Thai police arrested five Russian men in Phuket following the kidnapping of a Belarusian couple. The suspects had abducted the couple and compelled them to transfer approximately 31 million baht (approximately $901,200) in cryptocurrency before releasing them. Two of the five suspects were apprehended at Phuket Airport while attempting to flee the country; the fifth, believed to be the ringleader, was located at a massage parlour on Patong Beach. All five were charged with robbery, coercion, and illegal detention. The case was part of a documented pattern of organised criminal groups targeting cryptocurrency holders in Southeast Asian tourist destinations.
